How Much Does an Event Photographer Cost in Auckland? (2026 Guide)
An event photographer in Auckland costs about NZD $700 to $3,000 + GST in 2026. Hourly rates, what each budget gets you, and when to add video.

An event photographer in Auckland costs about NZD $700 to $1,200 + GST for 2 hours, $1,200 to $2,300 + GST for a half day, and $1,600 to $3,000 + GST for a full day in 2026. Event video usually starts around $1,500 + GST for a short highlight film. This guide explains what drives the price, what each budget gets you, and how to book only the coverage you need.
The Short Answer
Most event photography in Auckland is priced by coverage time. As a rough guide for 2026, before GST:
- 2 hours (an evening function, launch or awards presentation): about $700 to $1,200.
- Half day, 4 hours (a seminar, gala dinner or half-day conference): about $1,200 to $2,300.
- Full day, 6 to 8 hours (a full conference or trade show): about $1,600 to $3,000.
- Event video: about $1,500 for a 2-hour shoot with a short highlight film, $1,800 to $2,600 for a half day, and $4,800 or more for full-day, multi-camera coverage.
Behind those packages, most professional event photographers work out at roughly $150 to $350 an hour, and many have a 2-hour minimum because travel, setup and editing do not shrink with a shorter booking.
What Affects the Price
Hours of coverage. The biggest factor. Look at your run sheet and book the hours that matter: arrivals, speeches, awards and the first part of networking. You rarely need a photographer for the last hour of a function.
Number of photographers. One photographer covers most events well. A second shooter makes sense when sessions run at the same time, or when you need the stage and the room covered at once.
Number of edited images. Every image is selected, colour corrected and exported by hand. A larger gallery means more editing time. As a guide, expect around 50 edited images per hour of coverage.
Turnaround. Standard delivery is usually within a week. Sneak peeks for social media within 24 to 48 hours are common. Same-day or overnight delivery for media releases costs extra.
Video. Video costs more than photography because of the editing behind it. A short highlight film or a full keynote recording each add editing hours on top of the shoot.
Location and timing. Events outside Auckland add travel. Very early starts, late finishes and public holidays can also affect the quote.
What You Get at Different Budgets
Under $1,000 + GST: around 2 hours with one photographer and roughly 100 edited images. Enough for speeches, key moments, candids and a few group photos at a short function.
$1,000 to $2,500 + GST: a half day with an experienced photographer, a larger gallery, VIP and group portraits, detail shots of the room and fast sneak peeks for social media.
$2,500 to $5,000 + GST: full-day photography, or photography and video together, with a highlight film and several hundred edited images.
$5,000 + GST and up: multi-day conferences, multiple photographers or camera operators, full session recordings and same-day content.
Photography, Video or Both?
Photos are the workhorse of event coverage: media releases, LinkedIn posts, annual reports and next year's marketing. Video adds what photos cannot: the energy of the room, a speaker's actual words, and a short film that sells next year's tickets.
If your budget only covers one, start with photography. If the event is a launch, a conference you want to grow, or something with a strong atmosphere, a highlight video is often worth it. Booking both from one team is usually cheaper than two separate suppliers, and the two crew members are used to working around each other. How to Get More From Your Budget
Send the run sheet. Your photographer can then be in the right place for every key moment, and you only pay for the hours that matter.
Share a VIP and shot list. Names of speakers, sponsors and guests you need photographed, plus any sponsor signage. This saves time on the night and avoids gaps in the gallery.
Schedule group photos. Ten minutes set aside for group shots is far quicker than rounding people up during networking.
Ask for social-ready sneak peeks. A handful of edited images within 48 hours lets you post while people are still talking about the event.
Real Examples
We covered TRENZ 2024 in Wellington for Grow Tourism, New Zealand's largest international tourism business event, across multiple rooms and sessions over three days. In Auckland, we photographed and filmed the P1Harmony UTOP1A tour concert at The Trusts Arena, where stage lighting and fast movement make concert work one of the most demanding forms of event photography. You can see the concert photo album here.
