In Filipino bridal culture, the dress is never just a dress. It carries family, identity and pride. Maria Gabriela Couture makes bridal wear inspired by Filipino dress design. Based in New Zealand, the label gives Filipino brides a way to honour their heritage on their wedding day, through distinctive silhouettes, embroidered details and rich fabrics.
A photo can show a gown. It cannot show how the fabric moves, drapes and changes when someone wears it. So our brief was to film the work in motion. The result, The Art of Modern Filipiniana Elegance, is a cinematic showcase of Maria Gabriela's Filipiniana-inspired bridal design.
We treated it as a fashion production. Lighting, composition and movement were planned around the design, so the embroidery and fine detail read clearly on screen. The footage was made to be flexible, for social media, a brand website or a digital lookbook. It was filmed in Auckland and released in January 2025.
